Welcome to Student Sustainability Council


 

Our goal is to remove plastic bags from Grab It and Bag It is going well! We used to used thousands of plastic bags every week and we've eliminated them! We have passed out reusable bags that can be used instead. If you did not receive a reusable bag and want one, contact us at gimmeabag@case.edu.

We're also working on other campaigns to reduce our waste stream on campus, if you have any suggestions ow would like to get involved, contact us at sscexec@case.edu!

Facts on Plastic Bag Sustainability:


  1. At Case Western Reserve University, we cannot recycle plastic bags.

  2. 98% of plastic bags that are produced end up in landfills.

  3. The average plastic bag is only used for 14 minutes before it is disposed.

  4. Over 1 trillion bags are used across the world in a single year.

Farm Harvest Festival:


 

Farm Harvest Festival 2017 was awesome, thanks to everyone for coming out! We had new activities including composting demonstrations and cricket tasting, and we tallied a record of over 1,500 attendees. If you missed out this year, no worries, just join us next year on Saturday, September 22nd 2018!

FHF is an opportunity for the CWRU community to explore nature while learning about farm resources and sustainability issues. Activities include: Hayrides, Volleyball Tournament, Petting animals, Mushroom growing demonstrations, Beeswax lipbalm making, Cornhole tournament, Knitting, Planting herbs, Composting demonstrations, (Sanitary) Apple bobbing, Farm tour, Guided hikes, Showcase of student research in sustainability, Tall grass maze, Student performances, Music, Eating sustainably sourced food (including Mitchell's!), Cricket tasting, etc.
